The route to the Millomeris Waterfall crosses an abundance of vegetation. Approximately half of the initial segment follows the Kryo Patamo (Cold River) in a parallel fashion. In the second section, the open mountain with its untamed vegetation is reached. Excellent northern views.
The trail crosses the black pine forest, where uncommon flora and fauna species and local rock formations can be encountered. There are two approximately 500-year-old perennial black pine trees (Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana). ‘The teishia tis palaias choras’, the ruins of improvised fortifications constructed by a group of Venetian generals attempting to defend themselves against the Ottomans during the final years of the Venetian occupancy of Cyprus (1571 AD), is of historical significance. At an altitude of 1,850 metres, the route forms a circuit around the summit of Mount Olympos (Chionistra), providing a panoramic view in every direction. The trail is situated within the Troodos National Forest Park, and the Troodos National Forest Park Environmental Information Centre is located 2.2 kilometres away. This is Flora Cyprus Skullcap (Scutellaria cypria subsp. cypria), Spurge (Euphorbia cassia subsp. rigoi), Cyprus germander (Teucrium cyprium subsp. cyprium), Troodos sage (Salvia willeana), and Pondikangathos (common subshrub) are among the endemic plants that can be studied while trekking. From an altitude of 1,700 to 1,750 metres, the trail circumnavigates Chionistra mountain while traversing dense forests of black pine (Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana) and Foetid Juniper (Juniperus foeditissima). The trail contains one of the largest trees, a Foetid Juniper, which is 800 years old. There are breathtaking vistas of the entire island. Particularly intriguing is the entrance tunnel of the chromium mine, which has been decommissioned since 1982. The initial trail concludes along the Troodos-Prodromos road nine kilometres away. In order to proceed along the trail, you must traverse the main road and proceed approximately 200 metres along the forest road of Katoikies Chromiou in the direction of the Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis church, which is indicated by a wooden sign. The trail is roughly parallel to the main road and terminates at Troodos Square, where the Troodos National Forest Park Environmental Information Centre is located. A fountain containing potable water is situated three kilometres from the point of departure for Troodos Square. The hiker may pause at various Department of Forestry-selected vantage points during his journey, where, in many instances, a panoramic view is provided, primarily towards the Kryos Potamos and the Platres community. From these vantage locations, hikers can capture breathtaking images of the countryside and natural beauty of Cyprus.
