A vast portion of the western side of Cyprus is covered by the majestic Troodos mountain, which offers a respite from the heat of summer and opportunities for outdoor activities during the winter. In close proximity to the summit of the Troodos Mountains, the sole ski centre in Cyprus can be found. Under the beautiful blue sky of the Mediterranean, one can enjoy the pleasures of winter activities here. Skiing is permitted on the slopes of Olympus (1951 metres above sea level) from the beginning of January to the end of March. Mount Olympus is approximately 2 kilometres from the Troodos resort hotel, 12 kilometres from the Platres resort hotel, and approximately an hour’s journey from Limassol and Nicosia, both of which are located on the coast. At the ZEUS Slalom Homologated Piste, the Cyprus Ski Federation annually organises an International F.I.S. Skiing Tournament. At the Troodos ski centre, the Cyprus Ski Club operates four ski lifts:
