Beginning in a southerly trajectory from Chionistra, the Cypriot Olympus, the Kryos river flows east of Platres. It creates a verdant valley with distinctive flora, fauna, and waterfall in its path. Continual fluctuations in its water discharge are influenced by weather conditions.
It provides sustenance to the Platres community and other communities it traverses before emptying into the delta of the Kourris River, where it, along with other tributaries, culminates in the renowned Kourris River and the largest dam of the same name in Cyprus.
The most renowned cascades in Cyprus, Kaledonia and Millomeri, are formed along the course of the Kryos River.
